Moxibustion

Acupuncture treatment with moxibustionFor some conditions, especially those due to chi or yang deficiency, such as low back pain, the practitioner burns the herb moxa, generating heat to stimulate acupoints.

Moxa cones smolder gently on the patient until the heat becomes uncomfortable. Moxa may also be used in a steel burner placed on a needle head.

A moxa stick, lit like a cigar and held over the acupoint, is an alternative method of treatment. The stick does not touch the skin and is removed when the heat becomes uncomfortable.

Chinese Herbs

Herbs are used in conjunction with acupuncture and on their own to bring balance to the body. The Chinese have developed their pharmacopoeia over thousands of years, combining herbs to create formulas aimed at treating a wide range of diseases . Herbal formulas can be given in raw form and made into teas, in dissolvable powders, or taken in pill form.
